JobStart
Уже три недели проучился на отличных курсах в компании JobStart. Курсы за счет государства, даже транспорт оплачивается. Причесываем резюме, готовим речи, тренируем интервью. Заодним много общаемся, тем самым повышая уровень разговорного английского. Ощущения как на работе, потому что в классе только ИТшники. Программисты, менеджеры проектов, сетевики, админы. Еще учиться три недели, потом будет интенсивный поиск работы.

Essay about Marshall McLuhan
Nowadays, World Wide Web is not a miracle. We are using mass media every day. We can send a message to someone who is on the other side of the globe and instantly get a reply. We can transfer voice and video everywhere. There is no point of searching for the information in a heavy encyclopedia as you can easily find much more in the Internet. Media is a part of our life and we are a part of the media. We are closer to each other than people used to be before “the Internet era”.
But who knows that this was predicted in 60’s by Marshall McLuhan. It was he who said that we will live in the “Global Village” all together. It means that the whole world is compressed to a size of a village. Distance between people is dramatically reduced and they can easily talk each with other. He also told about special electronic communities. It might have been a prediction of social networks.
Every day we are surfing the Internet. We changed years ago. Now we need the information like a food or an air. The term “surfing” invented McLuhan too. He predicted that all knowledge will be accessible for people by means of electronic devices.
McLuhan proposed that media affect on the society. The effect doesn’t depend on the context but depends on the media themselves. Various media such as video, text, movie, TV affect us in a different way. McLuhan famous quote “the medium is the message” was used as a part of the book title “The Medium is the Massage”. Maybe this is not a misspelling. It could mean “mass age”. Or it could be an effect of a “massage” of the human sensorium (the sum of an organism’s perception).
George Orwell said “Who controls the past, controls the future. Who controls the present, controls the past.” I think we should learn history of the modern world and pay attention to the words of Marshall McLuhan. Otherwise, we can forget about something important. This electronic world is all around us, but we are still human beings. We should control the Net and not let the Net control us. It is extremely important to have life beyond computers and live communication for everyone. This will keep us humane and not a part of a machine.
